Checking what cement companies say against what they file

ESG ratings usually take a company's sustainability report at its word. I checked whether the records back it up.

I cross-checked five listed cement makers, including JSW Cement and ACC, against their BRSR filings, emissions data, and NGT and CPCB records. Then I built a weighted risk score across 10 indicators and all three ESG pillars.

Every company had a gap between claim and record. The ESG desk now uses my framework as an internal screening tool for its fund picks. Sitting in on client meetings with the founder showed me how a pitch is actually won.
